Morocco's Royal Capital Awaits — Rabat-Salé-Kénitra
Rabat–Salé Airport is the gateway to Morocco's administrative and royal capital — a city of white boulevards, ancient ramparts, and Atlantic ocean air. Located 10 km northeast of Rabat's city centre, it serves diplomats, business travellers and tourists.
Rabat holds the distinction of being a UNESCO World Heritage city inscribed as both 'a modern capital and historic city'. Quieter than Casablanca or Marrakech, it is an ideal base with direct high-speed rail to Casablanca, Fès, and Tangier.
Rabat airport sits about 10 km from Rabat city centre, with 1 passenger terminal. RBA is the closest major airport to the administrative capital and is compact — arrivals to kerbside is usually quick. Below is how each option compares.
| Option | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | Booked in advance for a fixed price (MAD 110–170 to Rabat city centre, about 20–25 min). Your driver waits in arrivals with a name board and tracks the flight, so a delay costs you nothing. | Night arrivals, families, luggage |
| Taxi | Official taxis queue outside arrivals. Fares to the centre are set by tariff rather than metered on airport runs — agree the price before you get in, and confirm whether it is per car or per seat. | Short hops, solo travellers |
| Train | No rail link from the terminal. Rabat Ville and Rabat Agdal stations in the city serve the Al Boraq high-speed line to Tangier and Casablanca. | Via city |
| Car hire | The main rental desks are in the arrivals hall. Useful for touring, less so for city stays where parking is tight and the medina is closed to cars. | Onward road trips |
Car parks sit directly opposite the terminal, split between short-stay bays for pick-ups and drop-offs and long-stay areas for travellers leaving a car for the trip. Take a ticket on entry and pay at the machine in the terminal before returning to your vehicle — the barrier reads the paid ticket on the way out. Tariffs are posted at the entry barrier and rise steeply after the first free minutes, so for a short pick-up it is worth using the drop-off lane.
If you are being collected, a pre-booked transfer avoids airport parking altogether: the driver absorbs the parking charge and meets you inside the terminal.
Allow time for passport control, which can be slow when several long-haul flights land together. After baggage reclaim and customs you emerge into the public arrivals hall, where you will find ATMs and bureaux de change, SIM-card counters, car-hire desks and the taxi rank. Draw some dirham before you leave the terminal — Moroccan dirham is a closed currency and drivers and small cafés are cash-first.
Tip: RBA transfers to Rabat city centre are fixed at MAD 110–170 with free cancellation up to 24 hours before pick-up. Check your price →
